The new owners of Piazza, formerly Coffee Plus, will be unveiling their new image, extensively refurbished premises and updated menu in Exeter’s Guildhall, opening for business on Monday 14th July. During the first month of opening, Piazza will be offering customers a range of special offers and discounts.
The former café had been in the Guildhall for nearly 20 years and its sale attracted an “enormous level of national, regional and local enquiries”. The all-new Piazza will continue to provide for an established Exeter City centre market, open between 8am and 5pm and cater for up to 110 covers.
The all-new Piazza will also feature an extensively overhauled and modernised menu. This will feature a range of reasonably priced breakfasts, lunches and sandwiches as well as a range of cakes, deserts and over 20 vegetarian options.
Mother and daughter Clare and June Conoley, Piazza’s new managers, said; “We’re delighted to be taking on and breathing a new lease of life into one of the city centre’s longest running institutions. We’ve updated our image, the premises and the menu and are aiming to provide quality café fayre at reasonable prices.”
Diabetic milkshakes; One area that is likely to cause interest is Piazza’s new range of American-style milkshakes that have been developed specifically for diabetics. The milkshakes were initially born out of Clare’s frustration at the lack of choice for diabetics, as her father has the condition.
Currently, about 100 people a week lose a limb through diabetes nationally, according to Diabetes UK, and the condition can lead to heart attacks, strokes, blindness and kidney failure. Health experts are predicting a diabetes “time bomb”, estimating be 1.3 million more cases of diabetes in the UK by 2025, fuelled by a national rise in obesity.
Clare Conoley says; “For many diabetics, there are really limited choices and so we are proud to offer a range of diabetic milkshakes and will be looking to extend our menu in this area. We will be offering an appealing and reasonably priced menu that is low in salt, fat and sugar, suitable for diabetics and anyone wishing to avoid developing the condition later in life.”
