Visiting a store one day the Managing Director of national high street optician chain Dolland and Aitcheson, in a chance conversation with the store manager, discovered that customers would often come to their stores with their own ‘style consultant’.
The manager had noticed this and set up her own in-house style consultancy service and was offering it to customers for a fee. The MD immediately promoted the store manager to a role at Head Office where they developed the ‘Styleyes’ scheme and rolled it out across the country.
What can we learn from this example?
Creativity can come from anywhere in your business, not just from the top, and just as importantly, creativity should be recognised and rewarded when you find it.
